Sundress Fever

The weather in D.C. has been anything but nice lately, it’s been cloudy, rainy, windy, and cold.  I’m starting to feel as though springtime rooftop happy hours are extinct!
While laying on my couch listening to the rain the other day I found myself perusing my favorite stores looking for some awesome sundresses to add to my collection.  I love wearing dresses to work, I can easily wear a cardigan to keep it appropriate, and then I can slide that cardigan right off if I’m going out after a long day of teaching!  For the rest of the week & Memorial Day weekend D.C. is supposed be hot like, high 80s hot, so I clearly need to run out right now and pick up a few of these super functional dresses!

Old Navy has a ton of affordable easy dresses that you can easily dress up or down depending on what you have planned.  I really don’t shop much in Old Navy, but after finding these, I might just have to stop in ASAP!

I’m a huge fan of Loft and shop there way too often, I’m a little disappointed by their dress selection at the moment, but I am loving that maxi.  & I love Banana Republic, they are always having great sales, this past weekend everything was 40% off, and since I have a Gap Visa card (owned under the same company) sometimes I get an extra discount.

Have you found any new sundresses to add to your collection this season?!

XO.

Perfect in Python

This post is inspired by August’s Lucky Magazine which had an accessories page dedicated to python print.  The three accessories featured were absolutely fabulous…and I would love if someone wanted to buy them for me! =]
Bag: DVF $350 ; Shoes: Alexandre Birman $895 ; Clutch: Jill Haber $895 — Picture: Luckymag.com
Howeverrrrr, clearly these options are a bit out of budget for most of us…although one day I hope they aren’t!  [Yes, I have big plans for myself]
Check out some python options I’ve curated…I like the colored python prints, but I like the classic looking print more.  Do you have any python accessories?  Let me know!

I’m especially loving the watch, the Timex Modern Easy Reader, & for $70 from Bloomingdales, I think it’s a good buy! I also love the clutch on the bottom, the Danielle Nicole ‘Austin’, from Nordstrom.  If you’re into the trend, but not that into it, the Nordstrom Python Print Eyelash Wrap is perfect, it comes in a variety of cute colors too!

Check out my Polyvore page for more product information, & if you have a Polyvore, I’d love for you to follow me!! xo

Mellow Yellow

We all know yellow is a huge color for this summer.  I’m not the biggest yellow fan on this planet, but it’s a nice addition to a causal or basic outfit.

I put together a Mellow Yellow set today, I love the sundresses the most.  While I also really like the yellow jeans, I’m not sure I could pull them off…and I don’t really care to find out.  I’m a total supporter of yellow accessories..the bag looks great, and I love the simple ring.

What do you think of the yellow trend?

Check out my Polyvore page to get details on my set!

All the Rave: Peplums

I’m sure all you fashionista’s have read about how popular peplums are this year.  The design was all over the runway, and now our everyday stores are getting in on the trend with some awesome pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe.  The design is super structured, and flatters almost all body types, which is why it’s become so incredibly popular recently.  Also, you can make the style either work or night appropriate, versatility is always super important.  Here are some pieces I found that are affordable and cute — I mayyyy just have to purchase a few =]

Vince Camuto’s  Front Tie Peplum Coral Dress
Asos’ Oh My Love Peplum Dress
Marc by Marc Jacobs Hannah Peplum Skirt
bebe Peplum Knit Pencil Skirt
ModCloth Eternal Flame of Love Skirt
Alice + Olivia Carly Short Peplum Skirt

If you’re interested in DIY (I’m not to be honest) then check out this article from Chictopia.com which features how to make your own peplum blazer!

Get Your Fall On: Riding Boots

If there’s one thing every girl should have in their closet for the fall weather, it’s a good pair of riding boots.  You can wear them with leggings or skinny jeans, a skirt or a dress…and you can dress them up or down.  Basically, they go with any and everything this time of year…and everyone in the world should own a pair.

I’m still on the hunt for my ‘to die for pair’ of the season…so here are some of the current contenders.
PS: If you invest in a seriously good pair of riding boots, they’ll last you forever.

Ivanka Trump, Arlecia Riding Boot — $290.00

Coconuts, Walker Riding Boot — $139.95

Frye, Shirley Riding Boot — $448.00

Tory Burch, Blair Riding Boot — $495.00
Mossimo Co., Kena Riding Boot — $34.99

Style Do: Chunky Knits

Here in D.C. it might not be too chilly yet, but I know that cooler weather is just around the corner.  One trend I feel I will forever love is my obsession with oversized, chunky sweaters.  There are so many options that can accompany this look that you don’t have to worry about overusing this trend…trust me.  I went to Express last week and they had a 30% off sweater sale, so of course I took that as an opportunity to start to get a few new sweaters to add to my wardrobe.  Anddd, just as I had suspected…success!

In case you’re on the fence about this trend, here are some tips that’ll keep you looking chic as opposed to drabby and grandma-ish!

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!  To keep the look trendy and chic use accessories liberally, but wisely.  Go for a super huge cocktail ring or layerd necklace (depending on the front cut of the sweater).

If you feel you’re lookin a bit box-like…belts are the best way to go!  When belting a chunky sweater go with a skinny belt…it’ll end up highlighting your waist.  A big belt will just add to the awarkward boxy-ness you’re already looking at.

Since you’re emphasizing your top half with a larger article of clothing, minimize the bottom half of your body.  Stick to leggings, jeggings, or super skinny jeans…you don’t wanna be bulky on the bottom…it’s just not a good look.
If you’re going out for drinks or just out with friends, add a pair of heeled booties!  It’ll instantly glam you up a bit and make the outfit a little more “going-out-esque”

Here are some chunky sweaters I have my eye on for Fall 2011!
PS: Express is currently offering Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off!! and Ann Taylor LOFT is having 30% off  all full priced sweaters!

All pictures have links to buy in the caption!  Enjoy!

Metallic Cable Knit Cocoon Sweater Coat — $88.00

Shawl Collar Open Cable Cardigan — $79.50

Trend: Polka Dots [Part II]

ACCESSORIES!

So, my laptop has been dunzo for the past couple of days but it seems to be okay now…let’s hope. Bleh. ANYWAY, here are some fabulous and affordable (with some fun splurges!) polka dot accessories if you’re not all into the clothing aspect of this trend.

Marc by Marc Jacobs has a lot of polka dot jewelry out this season, and duh I love it.  Zappos Couture has it all, so check it out!
Polka Dot Cocktail Confetti Bangle — $62.00

Trend: Polka Dots

I’ve been looking at the Fall 2011 runway shows…again…recently to see what’s going on as I get ready for the fall.  One look that kept appearing on runways (Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenburg) was polka dots, wearable  looks that can be easily translated to any fashionista’s budget.  I’m not that big into polka dot clothing, I’m much more of an accessories chick when it comes to any trend.

Polka dots can be fun and super cute when worked with the correct way, a head to toe polka dot ensemble would just look…gross.  SO, I’ve put together a few clothing options, that I think make a statement for this fall trend…but won’t make you look stupid.

Lauren Conrad seems to be having a moment, so I’ll start with this dress.  I love the color, it’s perfect for transitioning into the fall season.  I’d wear this to happy hour or dinner with my girls, and pair it with simple accessories so the focus can be on the dress.

Shop the look here. $189.99

I also really love this dress by UK favorite, Asos.  You can dress this up or down with whatever accessories you choose.  I think going with a gold set of bangles would look awesome, and if you really wanna spice it up a bit, go with bright colored heels or flats.  AND, extra plus…it’s on sale!

Shop the look here! $41.37

This first shirt is from Forever 21, of course they’re all up on the polka dot craze.  Anyway, I love this because it looks super comfy and would be great for an everyday look.  I like the slouchy fit, if you wear it to class then wanna go out after, just dress it up with jewelry and it’ll look a little more than just the minimum casual.  For this price, you really can’t beat it.

Shop the look here! $12.80

I couldn’t get the picture of this next item to save!!  But, I like this shirt by Ark & Co I found on Piperlime a lot because you can pair it with dark skinny jeans or jeggings, and make it pop with chunky jewelry.  It’s simple, but the bow adds something different, and it’s not too much. As it gets cooler out, just put on a light cardigan and you’re set.

I’m having major computer problems right now, so I’m gonna do the accessories and shoes tomorrow!!
