Budget Beauty: Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil

Recently I’ve been wondering…how did I ever take off my makeup without using a cleansing oil?  Since the fall I have been religiously using a variety of cleansing oils, & I am so addicted.  I love my PM skincare routine, but seriously, since incorporating a cleansing oil as my main makeup remover, I seriously look forward to it every single night.  Weird, right?  I don’t know why but I’m just obsessed with how well a cleansing oil takes off makeup and preps my skin for my PM cleanser.

If you’re unfamiliar with the cleansing oil trend, that’s okay, it’s relatively new.  The good news is, no matter what skin type you have, there’s a cleansing oil for you.  So, yes, that means a cleansing oil can even work for those of us who have an oily skin type.  The, not so, bad news is, there are so many cleansing oils to choose from now, almost every brand has come out with one, & since they aren’t necessarily “cheap” it can be difficult to find the right one.
Essentially a cleansing oil is going to effectively remove makeup while also using the oils in it to unclog pores.  It’s strange to think of an oil unclogging pores, but cleansing oils don’t sink into pores, they work keep the good oils present on your skin while eliminating the “bad” oils we’re most familiar with needing to combat.  These cleansing oils are also filled with all sorts of antioxidants, botanical oils, and vitamins.
One of my favorite drugstore brands of cleansing oil Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Oils.  The scent is light and coconut-y, and at night when I’m exhausted from work it’s refreshing and calming.  This oil is also super lightweight- I’ve been using a variety of cleansing oils recently and this one is without a doubt the most lightweight I’ve used.

The Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil is also great at removing makeup with no residue- there’s no oily feeling once you wash it off, and my skin doesn’t feel anything but clean and hydrated.  As far as eye makeup and mascara, I simply lightly massage the oil over my lashes, not pulling, and it all comes off.  I’m able to easily follow up with a nightly cleanser and can trust that that cleanser is able to do its job on my clean skin.  I have read some reviews of users experiencing a breakout after using this product, but I have sensitive skin, have been using this product for months, and never experienced that in the slightest way.

I know the price tag might not seem so budget friendly, but seriously this is a great price for this type of product.  If you’re looking to try a cleansing oil I’d try Burt’s Bees, they are such a well respected brand and I think this cleansing oil delivers great results!!

Budget Beauty: Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask

This mask stays on your skin for two minutes.  Two minutes, that’s it.
I needed to open with that because I love love love using this Soothing Chamomile Mud Mask before work!  I’m still so shocked that I have the ability to use a face mask before work…can you tell I’m overjoyed by this?!

Let me take a second to actually introduce this wonderful product, the Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask is a deep cleaning mud mask that sits on the skin for about 2 minutes.  The main ingredients of chamomile, Dead Sea mud, and a variety of natural extracts work together to unclog pores and purify the skin,
As you can tell from the beginning of this post, I love using this once a week before work.  Usually by Wednesday I need a pick me up, and this quickie mask delivers on that feel good vibe I need by the middle of the week.  Or, if I have a long night out for an event and I’m worried about oil control, I’ll use this mask as a primer before the primer to help keep my skin and makeup look refreshed and clean.
Since mud masks essentially draw out and absorb excess oil from the skin it is best for oily or combination skin types, although you might want to only apply this mask to the oily areas of your face if you have combination skin.  Also, if you’re like me and only suffer from acne once a month, the Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask is a great option for calming breakouts and reducing redness.

Budget Beauty: L’Oreal Infallible Matte-Pro Foundation

I’m forever looking for new foundations, & I’m pretty much willing to pay any price for a great foundation that’ll cover imperfections and give me a natural look.  So, with that being said, I cannot even remember the last time I used a drugstore foundation before this one.  I had heard such great things about the L’Oreal InfallibleMatte- Pro Foundation since it came out, and I thought I’d at least give it a try, I color matched to 102 Shell Beige, and give it a whirl.

This foundation seriously delivers, & I mean it delivers all day long, and doesn’t take a break.  Labeled as a 24 hour foundation I was skeptical of L’Oreal, and while thankfully I’ve never quite made it to the 24 hour mark, I have made it to the 16 hour mark (a Friday for a teacher can be a pretty long day), and it still looked good!

Clearly, as you can tell from the name, this foundation is going to give you a matte finish, an easily blendable matte-pro finish to be exact.  It gives flawless coverage without looking cake-y or dry, and it creates the perfect canvas for a highlight, blush, and bronzer.

I’ve used both a Beauty Blender and foundation brush to apply the  L’Oreal Infallible Matte- Pro Foundation and both work great.  As I said, it’s blends well and you can slowly build coverage and not worry about it looking like too much.  It also has a wide variety of color choices, so you’re almost guaranteed to find a perfect match.

This foundation truly has all the makings of a high end beauty product, but with the budget beauty price point.  I highly advise you give it a try next time you’re in your local drugstore or Target!

Budget Beauty: e.l.f. Illuminating Palette

e.l.f. cosmetics, a ridiculously affordable makeup brand that stands for eyes, lips, face, started their #playbeautifully campaign back in October.  I was so excited to have had the opportunity to be a part of the #elfbeautysquad for the past few months and I can’t wait to start sharing all of the goodies I’ve been consistently testing out.  If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (elizabethmayce) you’ve seen me post product pictures and some unboxings on Snap.  Now that my blogging life is finally back in order I’m excited to share my e.l.f. favorites with you all!

By now I think we all know the largest trend in makeup involves contouring, illuminating,  highlighting, and strobing.  There are so many palettes and products out there that help achieve the look, but to be honest it can be difficult to find an illuminating product that doesn’t cost a pretty penny.  I was shocked when I learned the e.l.f. Illuminating Palette was only $6…yes, six dollars.  Right now this palette is out of stock on the e.l.f. website, but I did find it on Amazon for about $15, which is a still a steal when you think about the price higher end brands sell these types of palettes for in stores like Sephora.
There are four illuminating powders in this palette, all of them are soft and give that perfect filtered look.  Seeing that I’m a teacher, using an illuminator in my daily routine is way more appropriate than a highlight.  I have a glow, but nothing too bright and bold.  The e.l.f. Illuminating Palette delivers a soft look, with great pigmentation on all four colors, which is exactly what I’d been looking for.

You can use these colors all over your face, which sounds a bit different, but really it makes sense.  After all, this is not a highlighter, it’s simply meant to brighten up your skin.  I’ve taken a large fluffy brush and mixed up all four colors and applied all over, rather than in certain light hitting spots.  I mentioned earlier, and it’s so true, it’s the perfect way to filter your face, sans Instagram.

My favorite two colors are the top ones.  I sometimes use the first one as a brow highlight- it brightens up my eyes a bit without looking like I have anything on.  The second color is perfect to illuminate the tops of my cheek bones.  It has a pinkish color, no shimmer, and this color really gives that soft glow I mentioned earlier.

Perfect for highlighting the brow.

My favorite for applying right on top of the cheek bones for a glow.

The bottom two colors are more bronzy, so using as an eyeshadow or for a little sculpt around the face have been their major uses for me.

Of course, I nicked this one right when I opened the palette, oops!

Try your local drugstore or Target to see if this palette is still available- it has to be somewhere!  & for the price, it’s totally worth it as an everyday quickie product.

Budget Beauty: Boots Botanics Toners

Toner is my favorite part of my skincare routine.  I use a toner for both AM and PM routines, but I like to switch up the type of toner I use.
Boots Botanics is a great brand, it’s affordable and high quality, using natural and gentle ingredients.  In my continued quest to branch out into more drugstore type products, I figured I would give the brand a try and pick up their Shine Away Mattifying Toner and the Rosewater Toning Spritz.

For my AM routine I always use the Mattifying Toner.  It controls shine and has clarifying willowbark as a featured ingredient, which is a natural salicylic acid.  Throughout the day I never know what is going to be thrown at me, so I need to have that base from my toner controlling any potential oil issues.   After using this toner the rest of my skincare goes on perfectly, and I’m set for applying my makeup.

I’ve been using this toner for a few months now and I’m loving how fresh and clean my skin feels in the morning after I use it.  Seeing and feeling the mattifying powders, without having that dry and tightening feeling, makes me feel like this product is really doing its job.  This is a definite repurchase.

During my PM routine I reach for the Rosewater Toning Spritz– it feels like a little bit of luxury with the light refreshing rosewater scent before bed.  This toner works to tighten pores and purify your face, which is perfect after a long day of wearing makeup.  This toner is much more comparable to a “water” type of fluid as opposed to my AM mattifying toner which has more of a texture to it because of the powders.  This extra moisture from the Rosewater Toning Spritz helps the rest of my PM skincare absorb into my skin more effectively.

Boots Botanics Mattifying Shine Away Toner | $7.59
Boots Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz | $8.39

Budget Beauty: Derma E Hydrating Night Crème

Winter is an awful time for most of us…I’m talking skin wise of course.  It’s hard to keep our skin as hydrated as it should be, the harsher elements cause skin to look dry and dull.  The Derma E Hydrating Night Crème with Hyaluronic Acid is perfect for this time of year.  It helps skin look plump and moisturized, and helps to keep fine lines at bay.  Derma e is proud to be one of the natural brands on the market, always staying vegan and cruelty-free, which I very much appreciate.  Furthermore, this perfectly priced PM moisturizer also the winner of a Best of Natural Beauty Award!

Derma E Hydrating Night Creme

I’m a huge fan of hyaluronic acid, when I used up my Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel I switched over to this Derma E Hydrating Night Crème.  I wanted to try something new, and I was so happy to see hyaluronic acid as a main ingredient- it’s incredible at locking in moisture.  This night creme also has a ton of vitamin C and E in it, so skin is replenished with what it needs to recover from whatever winter throws at us.  Another aspect I love about this PM creme is that it is so thick, rich, and luxurious feeling while applying it.  I truly feel like I’m

If you’re looking to add a great nighttime moisturizer to your routine, try out the Derma E Hydrating Night Crème next time you’re in your local Walgreen’s.  Also, they have so many other great looking products in their hydrating line, I’m looking forward to trying some more of them out!  To further entice you a bit, take a look at these great coupons for Derma E!

Budget Beauty: Yes to Cucumbers Eye Makeup Remover Pads

While I try to just use my cleansing oil to remove all of my makeup nightly, sometimes I need something a little extra if I’m wearing more mascara, eyeliner, or shadow than usual.  It can be tough to remove waterproof makeup, you don’t want to tug or use anything to harsh on/ around your eyes.

Yes to Cucumbers Eye Makeup Remover Pads

When I was in Target one day I spotted these Yes To Cucumbers Eye Makeup Remover Pads* and I figured I’d give them a try.  First of all, I love the scent- the smell of cucumbers is relaxing and spa like to me.  There’s a lot of product on one pad, and the formula is ideal for those with sensitive skin as aloe is a central ingredient.  The Yes to Cucumber Eye Makeup Remover Pads* remove all of my stubborn eye makeup, but I will say I use one pad per eye, which not everyone would love doing.
For the price of these eye makeup remover pads, you really cannot go wrong.  They’re easy to use, work effectively, and the cucumber element adds a bit more spa like luxury to your routine.

Budget Beauty: Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar

I’m a huge fan of charcoal products, I’ve been using a variety for quite some time.  While I love Origins and Lush charcoal products, it’s always nice to try a more budget friendly option every once and awhile.  Bioré makes great products, and once I saw their Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar* I knew I needed to give it a try.

If you enjoy reading beauty articles, there’s no doubt you’re familiar with how great charcoal can be for your skin.  Charcoal is basically a magnet for dirt and other yucky things in your skin, it’ll pull out anything clogging your pores and will control excess oil by delivering an excellent exfoliation.

The Bioré Charocal Bar contains peppermint oil and jojoba beads as well, which keeps skin feeling fresh and smooth.  I use this product every morning, but I only put the bar directly on my face and exfoliate every 2 or 3 days- otherwise I just create a nice lather and wash.

I’ve found a huge change in my skin since using this product, I wear makeup every day and for a long time.  Using the Bioré Charcoal Bar in the morning really sets me up for my makeup application and long day.  I’ve noticed a huge drop in tiny breakouts and pore issues I was having, and I know for a fact it’s because of this fantastic product!

Next time you’re in your local drugstore pick up the Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar*, it won’t disappoint!!

Budget Beauty: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

When looking for a PM moisturizer I want something that’ll keep me hydrate, fight free radicals, and generally heal and replenish my skin with whatever it loses due to daily stuff such as pollution, irritants, and makeup.

The hype surrounding Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel* has been real since it came out.  Between all of the commercials and ads in my favorite magazines, I knew I had to test it out.
This product can be worn AM and/or PM, I choose it as a PM moisturizer because I enjoy having an SPF in my AM one.
This water gel is incredible, it feels so cooling and amazing, and seriously hydrates my skin after a long day of work.  My skin has recently been changing from oily to a bit dry, and this was the first product I purchased to accompany my change in skin- and it’s definitely a keeper.
Although it’s a bit different than your typical moisturizer, the application is the same, a little goes a long way.  I love how quickly it absorbs, and it doesn’t leave me feeling greasy or oily, just refreshed.   The main ingredients, hyaluronic acid and olive extract serve as super hydration machines which make this product so great.
The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is the perfect addition to a nightly skincare routine during the winter months.  Even if you don’t have “dry” skin, it’s so important to make sure you are extra hydrated and protected when moving into the cooler months.
I’m almost out of my first jar of this product, and it’s already on my repurchase list.  I was recently given the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Eye Cream, I’m still using a different eye cream, but I’m looking forward to trying out this one next!!

Budget Beauty: Clear Scalp & Hair Intense Hydration Shampoo / Conditioner

As someone who colors her hair quite frequently, as in about once a month maintenance, I’m always focusing on the damage that’s being done to my strands.  Note I’m saying strands and not scalp…for years I honestly never thought twice about how the products I was using, both styling and color related, were effecting the health of my scalp- I never really cared.   It wasn’t until about a year ago that I really needed to change my thinking, especially with the change of seasons, particularly the transition from summer to fall.  My scalp was hurting…literally, I was experiencing intense dryness and psoriasis.  Not only was it uncomfortable I felt super self-conscious because it looked awful.

Clear Scalp & Hair
Intense HydrationShampoo and Conditioner gives my scalp, and hair, the lovin’ it needs to look and feel it’s best.  Since I’ve been using both the Intense Hydration shampoo and conditioner I haven’t experienced any dry scalp issues, and my hair has been noticeably softer.   I always need to take a fair amount of time to comb my hair after washing, it’s always been naturally kinky and somewhat knotty.  I was shocked the first time I used the Intense Hydration shampoo and conditioner, my hair had basically zero knots and the comb slid through perfectly.  No joke.

Both the Clear Scalp & Hair Intense Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner contain cactus extract, which helps hair stay healthy and nourished by flooding it with omega fatty acids.  This is exactly what my hair needs for the upcoming weather change to fall and winter.   This is the worst time of the year for me hair wise and I need to be able to rely on a super hydrating shampoo and conditioner, I’m so happy I’ve found that with Clean Scalp & Hair’s Intense Hydration line.

I had to share this picture, it’s originally from Snapchat, so sorry about that!  But, my hair has never looked this amazing without ANY product in it.  This is all the work of the Intense Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner.
Don’t let your hair, or scalp, health fluctuate this fall, get on board with Clear Scalp & Hair
Intense HydrationShampoo and Conditioner.  I’ve been so impressed with this line so far, and I’m looking forward picking up the Intense Hydration Treatment Mask during my next drugstore run!
You can find Clear Scalp & Hair
Intense HydrationShampoo and Conditioner your local drugstore, as well as Walmart or Target!
