Budget Beauty: Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser

While I was home in NJ for the holidays I snooped around my Mom’s beauty cabinets and found Neutrogena’s Deep Clean Cream Cleanser.  I’d never used this before, so I figured I would use it daily for a week and a half to see if it was a good Budget Beauty buy!

First off, I’m a huge Neutrogena fan, I think they really are the best for budget friendly, high quality, products.  I’ve used a variety of Neutrogena products since middle school (!!) and I have never been disappointed.

Budget Beauty: Pixi Glow Tonic

I’ve been hearing great things about the Pixi brand for a while, so I was super excited to pick up their Glow Tonic while shopping in Target one day.  I know this is a UK brand, and I think they were just introduced to the U.S. a couple of year ago, or less.  This particular product, the Glow Tonic, is a toner that aims to firm &  tighten skin with its exfoliating properties.
I’ve recently been using the Pixi Glow Tonic in the morning to prep my skin for a long day of teaching.  It gives my skin an invigorating & super clean feeling, without adding dryness.  The main ingredients are aloe vera, which you can certainly feel when using it, ginseng, and glycolic acid which covers the exfoliating part.

One aspect of this product that I love is the scent…it’s so floral and light.  I’ve seen some reviews where people really do not care for the scent, but I really do!!  The cooling properties of the product leave skin feeling clean without feeling dry, which can be a common issue with toners.

There is no oil or alcohol in this product, the witch hazel and aloe vera do an incredible job working together as a natural astringent and calming agent.  My skin can be sensitive at times, but I’ve experienced no irritation (particularly to my rosacea) since adding the Pixi Glow Tonic to my routine.

I’m really enjoying using this product as the weather gets more cold, I want to make sure my skin is exfoliated to remove dead cells, but I don’t want to over do it.  I’m noticing this toner is prepping my skin beautifully for a strong moisturizer before my daily makeup routine.

I’m looking forward to adding some more Pixi products to my routine this upcoming year, it’s a great brand at the perfect price point!

Budget Beauty: Simple Skincare Cleansing Micellar Water

I love trying out all the varieties of makeup removers these days from cleansers to balms, removing oils and, today’s feature, micellar water.  I don’t have a particular favorite type of remover, but I do have a favorite brand within each.  For micellar water though, is has to be Simple’s Cleansing Micellar Water, which I find to be so gentle and thorough at removing my makeup.

If you’re wondering what micellar water is let me fill ya in.  Micelles are tiny cleansing oil molecules that draw out dirt, makeup, anything yuck you don’t want at the end of the day, leaving your skin cleansed and pure.  This particular micellar water has Vitamin C and B3, which helps to hydrate and purify skin as you’re removing makeup.

Another part about Simple’s Micellar Water that I love is how fresh and pure my skin feels after using it.  There’s no residue, & you don’t need to rinse after use.  Since the solution using Triple Purified Water, it leaves you with such a clean and great feeling.

Simple’s Micellar Water is perfect for removing your more everyday makeup, versus heavier makeup and eye makeup.  I love using it nightly, and the price point is almost too good to be true.  Def pick it up next time you’re in your local drugstore, Ulta, or Target!

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water | $7.99

Budget Beauty: Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer

As many of you know I’ve partnered quite a few times with all natural & organic skincare brand Valentia.  I’ve been able to test out a wide range of their products, you can find all of my reviews below, but this was the first AM moisturizer of theirs I’ve used, and to no surprise, I love it!

I’m including this Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer in Budget Beauty because as I was browsing the aisles of Target & I noticed that the price of a good AM moisturizer isn’t what it used to be!  To be honest I’ve been trying to use up so many samples & products that I haven’t actually purchased a morning moisturizer in quite some time.  So, seeing the $25 price tag for this product is a bargain given the high quality, organic, ingredients.

Since this is a brightening product it will help to correct any dark spots thanks to kojic acid, it also evens skin tone as the antioxidants and vitamins penetrate and treat your skin.  The hyaluronic acid, which is super popular in many products lately, aids with strengthening elasticity and delivering moisture.  Lastly, ginseng boots collagen so skin will look more energized, while Shea butter is a great hydrator, and is perfect for the change of weather we’re experiencing.  No dry skin over here!

The moisturizer is packed to the brim with great ingredients, and I love that I can feel how high quality the ingredients are when I apply the Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer each morning.  After using it for over a month I’ve had no issues with this product.  My skin is bright and hydrated, and it works perfectly under makeup.  No need to worry about this moisturizer making your skin oily while wearing makeup for an entire day, it’s a great base.

The Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer is luxurious, without breaking the bank.  Oh yeah, & it smells spectacular.  I love the scent of all Valentia products, fresh and sort of citrus-y.

Budget Beauty: Nugg Face Masks

One day while perusing the skincare aisles of the bank account killer, but soul gratifier, Target, these cute little face mask packets appeared in my line of view.  I had heard about them for a while, but never purchased, so I figured, let’s make today the day I actually try these nügg face masks!

nügg, a cruelty free, natural oil & extract skincare brand, makes a line of face masks that cover a variety of concerns.  Each mask is sold in a little pod, which makes them an ideal face mask to travel with…or just use on a Spa Sunday perhaps.

While I haven’t had the chance to use all of the nügg face masks yet, I’ve been able to use three, and enjoyed them all!  Although the masks serve different purposes, the texture of all of them is a the same, it’s a gel that isn’t too sticky and doesn’t dry onto the skin like so many masks.  First, the Exfoliating Mask, features cranberry seed oil and jojoba beads.  This one felt great on my skin and my face looked fresh and new after using it.  I don’t think I had ever used a mask with cranberry seed oil in it before, so that was something fun and new for me.

The next one I used about a week later was the Hydrating Mask, the main ingredients Camellia seed oil and Spirulina extract, which is an antioxidant packed superfood, were also new to me.  I love that nügg has been introducing me to new natural skincare ingredients, it speaks to the difference in their brand compared to competitors.

The last nügg mask I’ve used is the Revitalizing Mask, which has flaxseed and peppermint oil as its main ingredients.  I love peppermint oil, so this mask was by far my favorite.  It really woke my skin up and gave me a great glow.  I used this as a Wednesday night skin pick up to keep me looking fresh and revitalized for the rest of the week.

If you’re new to nügg and want to experiment with what their face masks have to offer, I would highly advise trying out the Soothe, Hydrate, Exfoliate, and Revitalize Four Pack, which includes one of each mask.  The only one from there that I haven’t yet tried is the Soothe mask, but I’m sure I’ll get my hands on it eventually! Next time you’re in Target, which you know you will be soon, think about adding one or two of these masks to your cart!

Budget Beauty: Hask Charcoal Clarifying Shampoo + Conditioner

I like to switch up my haircare routine often, I’m always bouncing back between different shampoos and conditioners, sometimes I focus on volume, other times I need a super hydrating product.  With my color treated hair it really just depends on how it feels at the moment.
When I was given the opportunity to try out Hask’s Charcoal Clarifying Shampoo + Conditioner I was so intrigued by the charcoal aspect of these products.  Charcoal, lemon, and grapefruit oils work to give your scalp & hair a serious cleansing…hence, clarifying.  Clarifying shampoos are all the rage right now, their purpose is to eliminate any impurity, from the environment to your hair mousse, from your hair & scalp.  It seems like any regular ol’ shampoo would do this, but that’s not the case, these shampoos pack a bit more of a punch when cleansing your hair, all while keeping the essential oils within the hair to keep it strong.

Most clarifying shampoos are meant for weekly use, but luckily with the Hask Charcoal Clarifying Shampoo you can use it multiple times a week.  So far using this shampoo has been a great experience, it gives a nice lather, doesn’t dry out my strands, and locks in shine.  I always worry about shampoo lightening/ weakening my purple highlights underneath my hair, but that hasn’t happened using the Hask Charcoal system, so that is a major plus for me.
The Hask Charcoal Clarifying Conditioner works just as well, leaving my hair soft and feeling hydrated.  It has the same citrus oils as in the shampoo, so it’s a double dose of charcoaly-citrusy greatness.  For the price point, you really can’t go wrong with either of these Hask Charcoal products.

Budget Beauty: Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil

Recently I’ve been wondering…how did I ever take off my makeup without using a cleansing oil?  Since the fall I have been religiously using a variety of cleansing oils, & I am so addicted.  I love my PM skincare routine, but seriously, since incorporating a cleansing oil as my main makeup remover, I seriously look forward to it every single night.  Weird, right?  I don’t know why but I’m just obsessed with how well a cleansing oil takes off makeup and preps my skin for my PM cleanser.

If you’re unfamiliar with the cleansing oil trend, that’s okay, it’s relatively new.  The good news is, no matter what skin type you have, there’s a cleansing oil for you.  So, yes, that means a cleansing oil can even work for those of us who have an oily skin type.  The, not so, bad news is, there are so many cleansing oils to choose from now, almost every brand has come out with one, & since they aren’t necessarily “cheap” it can be difficult to find the right one.
Essentially a cleansing oil is going to effectively remove makeup while also using the oils in it to unclog pores.  It’s strange to think of an oil unclogging pores, but cleansing oils don’t sink into pores, they work keep the good oils present on your skin while eliminating the “bad” oils we’re most familiar with needing to combat.  These cleansing oils are also filled with all sorts of antioxidants, botanical oils, and vitamins.
One of my favorite drugstore brands of cleansing oil Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Oils.  The scent is light and coconut-y, and at night when I’m exhausted from work it’s refreshing and calming.  This oil is also super lightweight- I’ve been using a variety of cleansing oils recently and this one is without a doubt the most lightweight I’ve used.

The Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil is also great at removing makeup with no residue- there’s no oily feeling once you wash it off, and my skin doesn’t feel anything but clean and hydrated.  As far as eye makeup and mascara, I simply lightly massage the oil over my lashes, not pulling, and it all comes off.  I’m able to easily follow up with a nightly cleanser and can trust that that cleanser is able to do its job on my clean skin.  I have read some reviews of users experiencing a breakout after using this product, but I have sensitive skin, have been using this product for months, and never experienced that in the slightest way.

I know the price tag might not seem so budget friendly, but seriously this is a great price for this type of product.  If you’re looking to try a cleansing oil I’d try Burt’s Bees, they are such a well respected brand and I think this cleansing oil delivers great results!!

Budget Beauty: Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask

This mask stays on your skin for two minutes.  Two minutes, that’s it.
I needed to open with that because I love love love using this Soothing Chamomile Mud Mask before work!  I’m still so shocked that I have the ability to use a face mask before work…can you tell I’m overjoyed by this?!

Let me take a second to actually introduce this wonderful product, the Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask is a deep cleaning mud mask that sits on the skin for about 2 minutes.  The main ingredients of chamomile, Dead Sea mud, and a variety of natural extracts work together to unclog pores and purify the skin,
As you can tell from the beginning of this post, I love using this once a week before work.  Usually by Wednesday I need a pick me up, and this quickie mask delivers on that feel good vibe I need by the middle of the week.  Or, if I have a long night out for an event and I’m worried about oil control, I’ll use this mask as a primer before the primer to help keep my skin and makeup look refreshed and clean.
Since mud masks essentially draw out and absorb excess oil from the skin it is best for oily or combination skin types, although you might want to only apply this mask to the oily areas of your face if you have combination skin.  Also, if you’re like me and only suffer from acne once a month, the Soothing Chamomile Spa Facial Mud Mask is a great option for calming breakouts and reducing redness.
