Happy Thursday, everyone! I hope all are adjusting to our temporary new normal the best you can. It’s been interesting learning how to teach first graders from afar, but hey, every day is an adventure!
I know our ability to go out has been close to zero, so I wanted to focus on some Fab books and podcasts I’ve been enjoying while in somewhat of a quarantine. I read a majority of my books on my iPhone, but I did just recently get a DC Library card that I’m excited to use once this sh*t is over! Anyway, here are two books I’ve read in the past two weeks. Both of them are filled with suspense and are total page turners.
The first is The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda. I’d consider this a thriller in the sense that makes you think about the lengths people will go to alter, or altogether hide, their identity. Yes, there’s murder involved, but the element of the book that captured me was having to reevaluate my thoughts on characters after almost every chapter.
Today I’m sharing two hair care products that I just cannot get enough of lately. I honestly don’t spend too much time on my hair, I more so have a routine I follow with certain brands. It’s nothing special and that’s about it! I love trying new products, but I’m super particular with hair. I’m nowhere as adventurous with hair as I am with my skincare. However, once in a while, I try a new hair product, and really love it! Which is why I’m sharing the Redken GUTS10 Mousse and Captain Blankenship Sea Salt Spray with you today!
I wash my hair about 2x a week. If I washed it every day I’d be an absolute mess. My hair is super color treated, and can get dry very quickly, so I deep condition with a mask once a week- but more on that another time! My shampoo is tea tree based to help keep my scalp healthy. After shampooing I’ve tried quite a few mousse type products, and just haven’t been happy. When a stylist recommended the Redken GUTS10 Mousse to me, I was hesitant at first, but happy I decided to give it a try! I felt I needed way more root volume, and she insisted this would deliver just that.
If you have redness (like me) or are a bit more dry in the winter months, then this product is FOR YOU. First of all, the Clean Biotic line is incredible. I had the Sleeping Mask and used it all up immediately because I was obsessed with how my skin felt in the morning after using it. This line focuses on skin that needs to combat redness and dryness, so the Yogurt Cleanser is the perfect cold weather product for me.
I hope the first 16 days of 2020 have treated y’all well! So far I’ve been super impressed with 2020! I’m excited to share five items I’ve recently incorporated into my daily routine, in today’s Thursday’s Fab Five.
Okay, first of all, this price…$3 for two lip balms? Yes, please! I discovered SoftLips at Target, shoutout to the Target app and all those dang coupons- this was a great discovery! I love that this lip balm has SPF 20, and the price is so perfect I bought a few packs and just have them literally everywhere. My lips feel soft and hydrated when I use it- not sticky, and I don’t need to reapply every 10 minutes to keep that soft feeling, thank gawwwd.
The first Face Mask Monday of the year goes to a budget beauty buy, the Olay Glow Boost White Charcoal Clay Mask! When Olay came out with these stick face masks I thought to myself, wow this looks super easy. & guess what, it is super easy! Easy to apply, easy to remove, just all around…easy.
Olay is a super trustworthy brand, and when they came out with their line of mask sticks, it was a total game changer. Right now I only have the Glow Boost White Clay, but as my mask collection dwindles in this new year, I plan on adding the rest of the collection to my own!
I’m big into even numbers, so perhaps that’s why I’m so hype about 2020? Or, it could be because I’m happily pushing the reset button on a huge part of my life? I know 2020 will focus on getting back to who I really am and what I really want. I’ve spent a lot of years trying to make myself into something someone else wanted, and that didn’t really go so well, hence that reset button.
About a year ago vegan & cruelty free polish line Londontown reached out to me with their spring/ summer collection. I loved their polish, it’s high quality and the color selection is, in my opinion, strong & on trend. So, not surprisingly, I was thrilled when LondonTown reached back out with some great holiday polishes!
I’ve used two of the four holiday polishes so far, and I’m loving the vibes and quality of these colors. Londontown also sent over their Soft Touch Nail Scrub, which has now become a staple in my Sunday skincare routine.
Masks, masks, masks…2019 is all about the sheet mask craze and I’m 100% here for it. I’m also 100% here for a great eye mask. Eye masks are specially formulated for the sensitive under eye area and typically focus on anti-aging and depuffing the area. Pair a once a week eye mask with a really great under eye cream, like the Dr. Brandt needles no more Eye DePuffing Gel I featured a few weeks ago, and your eyes will be unstoppable.
VII is a brand I have featured before, back in 2017 I featured their Oxygen Eye Cream. I really enjoyed how thick of an eye cream it was and it did a great job at keeping me hydrated and bright while I traveled through Europe. I highly suggest it, but beware, it is not budget friendly by any means! You can check out my thoughts on the VIICode Oxygen Eye Cream, here!
I’m super serious about my face mask routine, and I’ve been upping my usage recently like crazy. So, when VIICode reached back out to me to feature their Oxygen Eye Masks, it could not have been more perfect timing!
I’m all about Budget Beauty when it comes to skincare. There are some awesome wallet friendly skincare brands and products on the market! Recently, I’m slowly coming around to introducing more budget friendly makeup options, a couple of which are the CoverGirl TruBlend products. I often partner with Influenster when new products come out- so I was super excited when I got a nice little CoverGirl package in the mail! I received four products, I’ll feature two of them today, and two next week.
The first product I tried out was the new TruBlend Base Business Primer. I love a good primer, especially because I have oily skin. & I need a primer to set my makeup up for success through the day. I typically reach for high end primers, thinking that the quality is better than your average drug store brand. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the TruBlend Base Business Primer! I’ve been using it daily before work, after applying my current moisturizer, & I’m loving how my makeup looks after a long day of teaching!
I’m sharing a great moisturizer today that I just recently ran out of, haaaalp!! The Clarins Gentle Day Cream for Sensitive Skin has been my go to night moisturizer for months now. Yes, you read that right, a day cream has been my go to night moisturizer for months now.
Confused as to why a day cream at night? I was too at first! I was shopping in Nordstrom one morning and Clarins had a team of their national makeup artists in store. Naturally, I couldn’t resist a makeup session. I explained to the makeup artist that I struggle with rosacea, and he immediately brought over two products that would help me. The first was a serum, which I’ll share next week. The second was this Gentle Day Cream.
