Taya Amazon White Clay Thickening Hair Spray & Thickening Whipped Clay

My last post on Taya Beauty featured the Amazon White Clay Shampoo & Conditioner, you can read about them here!  The next two products of the Amazon line I’m focusing on is the Thickening Hair Spray and the Thickening Whipped Clay.
As I mentioned in my last posting, the Amazon White Clay line’s key ingredients are white clay, raw avocado oil, and Croton Lechleri resin (plant extract).  I’m still loving this Amazon White Clay line for helping keep my psoriasis at bay, I feel like that’s how I know the all natural ingredients are legit!
Anywhoo, hair spray and mousse are super important to me because my hair can be quite lifeless at times, especially at the top.  Both the thickening hair spray and whipped clay have helped a ton in giving me a fair amount of body at my roots, and the whipped clay has been helpful in maintaining and giving more life to my wavy hair.

The Thickening Hair Spray isn’t sticky, which is the most important aspect of a hair spray to my opinion. I would have to say the key to this product is to not overdo it while spraying.  Sometimes I can go a little spray-happy and that def won’t work with this product.  I also only used this on my roots for volume, I didn’t love the way it made the rest of my hair feel, but I liked the effect on my roots!  After the first time using it I’ve only been using it on my roots and I’ve come to like it more each day.

Mousse is my favorite hair product, I’ve used many different brands and I have my favorites.  While I didn’t not like the Whipped Clay, I also didn’t love it.  My hair felt a bit sticky but still overall looked good, so that wasn’t so bad, just a bit annoying.  I can’t argue with the fact that it gave me a ton of volume though, it definitely does its job in that regard.  My curl looked good and when I went to wash my hair it brushed out easily despite the stickiness, so that made me happy.

Goody QuickStyle Paddle Brush

 {I got this brush in last year’s holiday Influenster box, so I did not pay for it.  If you aren’t a part of Influenster [esp if you’re a blogger] I’d highly advise you join!}

A good brush is everything to me because I have slightly damaged hair from coloring and I also have potentially extremely frizzy hair if it’s brushed too much.  Normally, the rule of thumb is to never brush wet hair because you could seriously cause breakage since the hair is wet.

The Goody QuickStyle Paddle Brush is a bit different because it absorbs water from the hair, just as if you were towel drying and combing at the same time.  It’s not rough on the hair at all, I’ve been using this for about a year now and have experienced no breakage or anything like that at all.

It’s a lightweight brush with a great grip, and it has antimicrobial microfiber to keep the brush fresh.  I’m telling you, this product is a lifesaver.  I have super thick hair, and I always wrap it up while jumping out the shower, and then I do my skincare routine.  When I’m done that I focus on my hair, so technically my towel has already absorbed a lot of the water, but since using this brush as well, I’ve noticed even less moisture and I’m ready to apply product right after brushing!

Taya Amazon White Clay Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner

I love to try new products, so when Taya Beauty reached out to me about their Amazon White Clay hair line, I was super eager to check it out!
If you’re not familiar with Taya Beauty, and I admit I was not, Taya is a beauty brand devoted to sustainability.  All products are free of parabans, animal products, and sulfate…and all ingredients come from environmentally sustainable programs in the rainforest.  Another big reason why I was on board with Taya, the brand makes sure the local rainforest communities can benefit from the harvests.
I was thrilled to try the Amazon White Clay hair line and I am extremely grateful to Taya for sending me the entire collection.  First up for me to chat about, the shampoo and conditioner…which in my opinion are the roots of any hair routine, pardon the pun!
The main ingredients of this line are amazon white clay, raw avocado oil, and croton lechleri resin, which is a plant extract.  I love avocado oil, so right off the bat when I saw that I had high hopes for Taya Beauty!
When I first started, I found the Amazon White Clay Thickening Shampoo a bit odd.  It doesn’t lather, and the consistency is a little different than your typical shampoo…which piqued my interest.  My hair felt clean, the shampoo washed out nicely, and I soon got over the different texture of the shampoo.  Although I have thick hair it can be a bit lifeless at times, especially at the top, so using a thickening shampoo is right up my alley.
I found the shampoo didn’t cause my hair to become any more blah, but I didn’t notice a huge difference in my hair after using the shampoo.  That being said, I really enjoy using it as I noticed it did not flare up the psoriasis on my scalp, which for me is a huge deal since it can happen so easily.  I’m assuming the main reason for this is the croton lechleri resin since that is known as a “wound healer” for various skin conditions.
I’m always very indifferent to shampoos, if it gets the job done, that’s great.  On the other hand, I am super particular about my conditioners.  My hair is a bit damaged from all of the coloring since high school, so I need a super moisturizing thick conditioner that will help keep my ends soft and any dryness at bay.
I must say, I am very pleased with the White Amazon Clay Thickening Conditioner!  It covers the basics of adding moisture and didn’t weigh my hair down at all, so automatically I liked it.  My real test with new conditioners is to let my hair air dry and see how it looks and feels without any product in it.  Taya’s Amazon White Clay Thickening Conditioner passed my test with flying colors, I added no product to my hair at all and was told my hair looked full and great.  Mission accomplished.
Stay tuned for more reviews on the styling products of the Amazon White Clay line!

Aveda’s Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair

I color my hair every few months and have changed the color drastically quite a few times since being 15.  So, it’s safe to say that I sometimes suffer from super dry ‘HAAAAALP ME’ strands.  BUT, I combat this issue the best ways I can…not washing my hair everyday, using color-treated hair products, regular hair masks, and this little product right here…
I started using this product a little over a year ago, when my stylist told me I needed to do something about my dry ends.  My salon is an Aveda salon, and I had never really used Aveda products before, so I was excited to try it out.  She gave me a handful of samples to try out, I used them all up immediately and went back to buy the full size!
I use it each time I wash my hair, just a nickle sized drop, and I smooth from root to ends on my damp hair.  I have noticed a huge difference in the way my hair dries (less frizz) and my split ends are nowhere near as awful as they used to be.
Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair is seriously nourishing and is perfect if you need some extra in keeping a healthy moisturized mane.  It even helps with detangling, which is perfect for me because for some reason I have a huge problem with that!
If I didn’t have so many hair products already I would definitely branch out into the rest of the Damage Remedy line…hopefully I can use up some of my stash so I can finally put it on my list!

Thursday’s Fab Five

My favorite things for the week of August 18!

Bath & Body Works Paris Amour Body Lotion
I love the entire Paris line, but this lotion is one of my faves.  The smell is so luxurious after the shower, I love it!

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo
I love trying all different types of dry shampoo, so when I was offered to take one of these bottles home last time I was at Drybar, I happily obliged.  You’ll lose those oily roots & def extend your blowout another day.  I love it because it adds volume to my sometimes flat roots.

Celestial Coaster Set
I love these coasters.  My fabulous mother bought me a set of four [Antho is one of our joint favorite stores].  The ones I have are all different colors [coral, purple, teal, & a darker blue], and I love that each one is different looking.  They’re a great addition to my coffee table & I feel like I need more.

Yankee Candle’s ‘Island Spa’
Since sweet summer is coming to an end, I figured I’d end my summer candle on a luxurious vacation note.  I love this scent, I used to have it in my car tooIt’s fruity but in a sophisticated way…does that even make sense?

Starbucks Valencia Orange Refresher
AH THIS IS SO GOOD. Seriously, it’s so yummy and orange-y and refresh-y.  Go try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

If you know me you know I don’t typically do a whole lot with my hair.  I sometimes straighten it, but for the most part it’s too much work to have a daily hair style.  So, I air dry and then just have it in its natural wavy state.  I’ve always struggled with volume at my roots, I use all different types of shampoos, conditioners, etc. but I’ve never found a styling product that’s given me results like Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray.
Hairstylist, Oribe, is most well known in the world of high fashion runway but also has taken it down a level and connected with the, should I say, more everyday individual.  You also may have heard his name in connection with Jennifer Lopez, but in reality Oribe has worked with just about everybody and every major fashion house.
I’ve used quite a few different products, but the Dry Texturizing Spray is the one product that I use almost daily, and will forever repurchase.  Basically it’s both a texturizing spray and a dry shampoo.  I spray it on my roots and tousle them for a perfectly undone and casual look, it adds a ton of volume and texture, something Oribe is most known for.

I don’t love hair spray type products because they can cause my hair to feel brittle, sticky, and/ or too dry.  I’ve never had any of these issues with this Dry Texturizing Spray though- the formula is high quality and gives a great texture without giving my hair grief.

The Dry Texturizing Spray is the perfect combination between 2 products, it’s like dry shampoo and then some.  It’s formulated to add the volume and texture that not all dry shampoos necessarily do.  Also, Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray is safe for color treated hair, yay, offers UV protection, double yay, and is paraben free.  It’s not sticky, which is a problem with most hair sprays, and it brushes out easily, so it won’t create knots or stuck together pieces…it’s awesome.
Watch the video above to see how Oribe uses the product most effectively.
PS: the video shows some MAJOR teasing and volume, don’t let it scare you, just go with the flow, and think about how it would work for you.
I spray it on my roots and tousle them for a perfectly undone and casual look.  My hair is so incredibly limp and flat around my roots, it’s always so frustrating.  This product gives me life and is perfect for transitioning from a workday to night out look.

I also love that Oribe makes a travel size of the Dry Texturizing Spray- it’s perfect for, well obviously, travel, but to keep in the car or in your purse for a quick pick me up when transitioning from the work day to a night out.  It’s my holy grail product & even though it does have a somewhat higher price point, it’s worth it.

August Birchbox!

BACK TO SCHOOL.
That’s the theme of August’s Birchbox, which is appropriate for me since I’m preparing to move down to Arlington, Virginia and begin graduate school at GWU.  This month’s box was ahhhhmazing, and had tons of goodies that I ended up using right away, and am definitely thinking about purchasing in the very near future!
The first item I took out of my August box was Stila’s ‘forever your curl’ mascara.  Now, I typically only use benefit for my mascara (see my battle of the benefit mascaras here).  However, since stila is one of my favorite brands, and I’ve never tried their mascara, I was happy to see this!  The mascara def created a good curl, but I love extra va-va-voom in my mascara, and this one just didn’t cut it for me.  BUT, I still love stila! PS: I couldn’t get a good picture of it because of the shape of the bottle and how small it was.
The next item I saw was the Shu Umeura Art of Essense Absolute Nourishing Protective Oil for hair.  Considering the retail price for this item ($68), I’m pretty sure I would not regularly purchase it, especially since I’m so loyal to Bumble and Bumble.  Nonetheless, it’s always great to try new products.  You can use this hair oil as a pre or post shampoo/ conditioner serum, or to help style on dry hair.  Multiusage is super important, and from what I have read about this product, it certainly accomplishes that.  I’ll let you know when I try it out!
Next we have my favorite product from this August box, Talika’s Oil-Free Lash Conditioning Cleanser.    I’ve never heard of this brand before, which is why I love Birchbox so much, it allows me to try new brands I might not find otherwise!  Anyway, with the amount of mascara I wear on a daily basis sometimes I worry about my lashes.  I try to take off my mascara every night, but some nights when I don’t end up going home it’s not always easy…especially since it’s waterproof!!!  This lash cleanser is also a conditioner, nourishing lashes and restoring some of that wear and tare from both applying mascara, and then removing it.  I will definitely be purchasing this from the Birchbox store!
I was surprised to see the Schick Hydro Razor in this month’s box, but alas, this is an important part of beauty upkeep.  The Hydro Razor, keyword hydro, is supposed to moisturize legs for up to two hours after shaving, and it uses five blades for a super close shave.  I am extremelyyy loyal to my Schick Intuition, and have been for years.  Although using this razor was fine, I know I won’t be leaving it’s cousin Intuition anytime soon!
The last sample is Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy La Fleur — which I have used samples of in the past.  It’s very fruity, super girly smelling, which is fun but I don’t love it as an everyday scent.  The fact that it’s so sheer though, good for end of summer and beginning of fall, is nice and keeps it light.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil

I know the title of this is a mouthful, but trust me, it’s a great product!

I got Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil in my Birchbox months ago, but I didn’t use it until recently, and I’m angry at myself for waiting so long!  I never really enjoyed the thought of putting oil on my face, since that’s the main issue I try to combat on a daily basis.  BUT, I did a little research on this product, and I was pleasantly surprised with what I read.  So, I tried it, and I was even more pleasantly surprised with the results!

This dry oil has six essentials oils that make it both luxurious and beneficial for your skin.  Even better, not only can you use this on your body and face, but you can also use it on your hair!  Seriously multifaceted.  Some main ingredients include vitamin E (always a plus), almond oil, hazelnut, and macadamia oil.

I’ve been using this oil, just a few drops, nightly after applying my serum.  It smells light but refreshing, perfect for bedtime, and sinks right into the skin.  When I wake up in the morning I feel like my skin looks brighter and more healthy, not shiny or oily.  I use the extra oil on my hands to rub into the ends of my hair to soften them a bit, and it works every time!

I’ve also read that you can mix a tiny bit of this oil with your foundation for a dewy effect.  I really want to try this, but I don’t think I will until the colder months roll around.  I’m just a tad scared I might look a little slick as the day goes by, but maybe I’ll try it when I’m just home for the day to see what happens.

I’m not sure where you can buy this product in stores, but you can find this product over at Birchbox here!

Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Gel

One haircare product I really don’t think I could live without is the Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Gel.  At all.  Ever.  I have wavy frizzy hair so I need products that make it look bouncy and not frizzy instead of bleh and boring.  This curl shaping gel is perfect because it’s a spray gel.  I literally spray on my damp hair once I’m outta the shower, and then once my hair is dry I can keep spraying all over to create more scrunch and body.  It also eliminates frizz, which is of course, every girls worst nightmare.  Also, to add body to my roots I spray some in my hand and work it into my roots.  This way the body of my hair isn’t all perfect and the top/ roots are flat.

This product is considered ‘strong’ which is true– it’s not really easy to comb with after you use it, some people like that (like me) and some people don’t.  One thing to watch out with, it can be sticky if you use too much, but that’s really only if you use too much — the first few times that happened to me, but now I know the right amount to use where it isn’t yuck sticky.  Andddd, like any Garnier product, it smells AMAZING.
If you’re looking for beachy waves or lightly tousled locks, I def suggest this product!
