HOW IS IT ALREADY OCTOBER 22…2017!?!?!
Does anyone else have this feeling…or is it only me?????
I’m pretty sure it’s not only me.
Anyway, I haven’t posted in a while, life is totally in the way. Also, I’ve been so in love with the products I’ve been using for a while now, and I haven’t really switched anything up…which is so unlike me…and doesn’t really give me anything to write about!! Ugh.
I’m usually the ultimate time manager, and as far as teaching goes I still am, but I’ve realized that for the past month I’ve totally gotten off track in every other aspect of my life. So, my big focus this weekend has been to rebalance myself, get some great posts written, and get back to being on my #girlboss grind.
This past month has been so busy and fun, so here’s a sneak peek of everything I’ve been doing lately.
I decided to take myself out to lunch before an appointment one Friday, I’d been wanting to try Barley Mac in Arlington for a while, so I hopped in and sat at the bar with my book. I wanted to try a few things, and I knew a pizza would be perfect to take home as leftovers, so I started with the Caesar salad, and then had one of their popular pizzas…the Fresh Fig Prosciutto & Goat Cheese, sans figs because I’m not really a fig gal. Everything was so delicious!! I especially loved the cucumber margarita, it was so beautiful and tasted delicious on a Fri-yay afternoon. If you’re in the Arlington, VA area for a day of shopping…or doctor appointments…stop by Barley Mac for lunch!
Another great spot in Arlington I visited recently, with Rob, is one of our favorite after dinner spots, Nicecream! Nicecream isn’t your average ice cream parlor, they handcraft flavors made with liquid nitrogen, right in front of you after you order. The flavors change regularly, so Rob & I always check the calendar before heading over, but I mean seriously, we always find a flavor…or two…that we can’t wait to try…or retry!
All of my recent business had me seriously behind on grocery life…I love visiting Trader Joe’s on a Saturday and getting everything I do and don’t need. I just tried the Cave Aged Blue Cheese and o.m.g. it is so delicious…I don’t know why I didn’t buy it sooner!! & of course I needed to buy flowers because everyone should always have fresh flowers in their home.
Twice a year, at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, they have a Sunset Wine Festival with tons of local wineries visiting & setting up shop. I’ve been going for a couple of years now- it is so much fun and this time around I went with my girls, instead of making it a date night. There’s 3 sessions for the wine festival, Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. We went Saturday night, which always sells out the quickest- it’s such a popular event and since I started going it gets better every time. The Spring Wine Festival is the weekend of May 18, 2018…so if you live in the area I highly advise checking out this event- & buy your tickets the second the start selling them!
The wineries do guided tastings, about 5 or 6 per winery. If you want a glass they typically run between $5 and $7, but it’s way better to buy a bottle with your friends, grab some snacks, and sit on the grass overlooking the Potomac. GW’s house is also open for tours, which is super fun because it’s at night, which makes it kinda eerie & fun, and it doesn’t feel so touristy.
This next picture isn’t the best, but I made a gluten-free pasta with garlic & herbs and added in a ton of crab meat. It was fantastic and I can’t wait to make it again, Rob & I could not stop eating it. I made the crab legs first, the way I normally do, then took the time to take all the crab out, and allow it to sit in the sauce for a little bit. The flavor was awesome especially once I added in a bunch of fresh parsley. It wasn’t the quickest meal, because I needed to take the crab out of the shells, but it was beyond delicious.
Nobu D.C. just recently opened, so you know I needed to go check it out. Paulina & I made a reservation and headed over during a weeknight. It was packed, def that D.C. businessman crowd which can be kinda stuffy but whatever. Everything was super delicious (like those short rib & lobster tacos seen below) but I still don’t think the food quite matched up to it’s price. I know you’re going for the Nobu name, but seriously, the price was a bit over the top…& this is coming from someone who loves going to the best restaurants anywhere and everywhere. I’m super happy Paulina & I went for the experience…I think I would go back, but just to hang at the bar and get some appetizers.
|Chocolate Bento Box Dessert with Green Tea Ice Cream…so yum.|
Can we please just have one moment for the Jets hangin’ in there with the Patriots last weekend?!??!!?!?!? UGH, my friend Kait & I went to the Jets bar in D.C., Irish Channel, and had a great time. It’s super fun to have a group of Jets fans to watch with, and of course, you gotta take a shot after every touch down…which might sound intense but don’t forget it’s the Jets so it’s not like we’re really taking many shots. I can’t figure out if that’s a good thing or not.
The brand spankin’ new District Wharf is finally open! It’s been incredible to watch them build up the waterfront, I pass it on my drive to and from work each day, so I have literally seen every aspect of this come to life. I was so stoked to finally visit this week with my friend Rachel, it’s close to our job, which is perfect for after school happy hours. The Anthem is a huge focal point to District Wharf, it’s a massive concert hall, and it’s surrounded by tons of cute shops and restaurants along the Potomac. There are only a few restaurants open right now, still with limited drink & food menus, but that’s not stopping anybody from visiting. Rachel & I went to The Brighton and sat outside overlooking the Potomac while we sipped our vino. The food at The Brighton was also super, super, delish, we shared the Gruyere & Brie Grilled Cheese with Tomato Chutney & Arugula, and the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich. Ah, they were so good I can’t wait to go back!
Hope you enjoyed my photo share! Keep up with me on Instagram & Snap, elizabethmayce, to see all my D.C. adventures.
